Hey Brian,
Bottom line answer is yes your saab will keep up with the sl500, They have very similar quarter mile times and launching is the saabs weak point. The Aero's turbo really shine on the highway where it just pulls and pulls.
All the specific info for mods can be found by searhing the archives on this board.
K&N is great bang for the buck, and the sound alone is worth it. Just make sure you route the filter into well (as close to original intake opeing as possible) so it's not sucking up hot engine air.
Down pipe and cat will decrease spool up time and give a few ponies same goes for the cat back. ( If you were only willing to do one, definitley do the down pipe and cat)
An ECU can take advantage of the better breathing right up to about 300hp.
I'd look into buying a short shifter or making your own (search if you want to know how)
Replace the Tranny mount, control arm bushings and rear sway bar bushings with polyureathane.
You should also be able to lower the car while keeping the stock shocks and struts. My firend's aero is a 95 and has 40 mm lowering springs with stock dampers. Ride is stiff but not unruly. Handling is awesome.
Koni would make it even nicer...
Get some sticky tires and you've got a real nasty machine.
Also check out this guys site, he pretty mcuh details everything you can do short of a bigger turbo.
Chad
