I know a race engine builder back home who does something similar.
Instead of using the AC to cool the air, he uses a little homemade system to cool the fuel. You can do his method instead of buying one of the Moroso cool fuel cans, or using it in conjunction.
He replaces a short section of the fuel line with a coiled up section (looks like a spring), so it has a bunch of surface area in a small section, then he gets a small container, made out of aluminum, and drops in some dry ice, or ice water, etc. He said he got around 30HP off a dyno from it. This was a big HP motor though.
Just some food for thought!
Sounds interesting Dave, you bring up a good point about the compressor eating up the HP.
