I had the same thing with my Viggen. It never reaches red. I would assume this is because the car has the T7 Control unit. This unit controls the boost at different altitudes, and will range from 16-20 psi from what i have heard. I assume red would be 20 PSI and the only way to get to that is by a chip or the altitude you live at. The T7 is very sophisticated. I live in philly and im pretty sure im only getting 16 psi. You probably have the same deal, your hitting max boost for your altitude(really the amount of oxygen in the air, so higher altitude means less actualy oxygen=more boost). It may still be the BPV but i cant see why. Do not try to add a boost controller to your car. The T7 will be thrown off. This is the same with a blow off valve. The T7 has a mass air flow sensor and expects the air to be recirculated(which is what a BPV (Bypass Valve) does). With a BOV the air would be released and the T7 would be thrown off and the car would either stall or jolt. In other words, dont mess around with the T7. All i would do to it is an intake that is specific to the T7, an upgraded BPV, and a chip from a well respected SAAB tuning company. Seriously dont mess with the engine without getting opinions of people on this board.
If you have any questions just send me an email Wcs531@aol.com
Good luck, Will
