I am looking for comparisons to my setup thanks in advance for reading this long post!
1986 SPG 135,000 miles in Dallas Texas with the following modifications;
3.0 fpr, SD Blue series injectors (27 lb?) SD Red Series APC, K&N cone filter, early style aluminium IC with stock plastic IC shroud, 20 psi newer Viggen style BOV, all new silicon vacuum lines, all stock turbo ducting in good shape, new distributor (unmodified vacuum advance, newer 88 up style) AIC is clean and working, AMM is clean and working (380 ohms measured from pins 3 and 6, stock screens still on) Stock exhaust in good shape (anyone used the 2.5 inch stainless exhaust from saab saviour? results? I do not want to relocate the battery) TB is clean and appears to be ok. Timing is set to 15 btdc. I have replced the following parts: knock sensor, apc soleniod, plug wires (8.5mm Magnicor) plugs are NGK BCP7ES, All coolant/heater hoses have been replaced, 82 degree fan switch and thermostat, Fuel cutoff switch adjusted two turns in clockwise, I am using VDO gauges for boost and oil pressure, volts. (from SAS)
Question #1 I quickly reach 15 to 17 psi and rapidly drop towards redline to 10 to 13 psi, shouldn't I be seeing higher peak and longer sustained boost levels?
Question # 2, at Idle (very smooth @850 rpm) Oil pressure gauge show 25 to 40 psi, under acceleration 55 to70 psi. Is this normal? Seems ok to me just want comparisons.
Questions #3 Volts show almost 14 (maybe 13.6 to 13.8 while engine is running) is this the norm?
Other mods that are probably of no intrest; Optima red top battery, Redline MTL, Castrol full synthetic 0-50w, Castrol dot 4 lma hydrulic fluid, New Clutch MC, new Brake MC new Stock clutch line, all new Clutch seals/bearings, SD aluminum flywheel, My dash and leather seats have cracks :/ new headliner, Stock suspension and brakes, Yokohama AVS 195/65/15 on stock spg rims
I have had this car for about a year now, seems like I am wasting money, but it is fun. This is my first turbo car, I am the 3rd owner and bought it locally. I am new to the turbo 16v setup ( my other car is a '72 Karmann Ghia ,another money pit!) All modifications have come from what I have read here and I have almost covered the Bentley manual with oil/grim / hydraulic fluid, maybe I need another copy for "inside"! Thanksto Jeff and Roys site for the excellent clutch DIY info! made me feel like a pro!
