I do know that detectors are illegael to use in virinia as well as some other state's. I also believe that the Valentine V1 is vg2 protected (VG2 is the police's radar detector detector) so they shouldn't be able to tell without actually seeing the unit that you're using it. If you are using a remotely located display and I know Valentine makes one that uses a 9 volt hookup, then you should be safe, but use it at your own risk. On a recent trip to Florida from New York, I was able to make it through Virginia averaging about 90 mph the whole way through without a detector though so it can be done sans detector but anyway, be safe and good luck!
