when i replaced the headgasket on my SPG, i didn't have a timing light, so until today i had been driving around on guesstimated timing. i figured it was close to normal, because the car felt good and pretty stock, only a bit peppier when not under boost. the only difference was that it knock under just five lbs. of boost, which i attributed to the 87 octane i have in the tank. anywho, i got a timing light to use today, and it was set at 25 degrees BTDC! that's why it felt so responsive. that's also why it knocked. my question is, is there a simple way to modify the timing retard diaphragm to be able to retain the nice advanced timing in the vacuum, but get the essential retard under boost? i have read things about grinding down the stop that's in the diaphragm itself, but i don't know too much about it. sorry about the length, but can anyone lend any advice? thanks in advance.
