Ouch! Once long ago my Mini-Cooper threw a bearing piece which lodged in the shifting forks, such that when I shifted to first I also activated reverse. Let out the clutch and KABAMM! Wonder if a couple of your shifting forks are jammed?
Yes, minis used to have the transmission as the engine sump.
