Howdy:

I dropped by the local Saab dismantler today to take some measurements. I tell ya, it's a LOT easier to measure axles when cars are already up in the air and missing their wheels!

Anyway:

c900 -'87: From rotor surface to rotor surface is 55.5", the distance between the rotor surface and wheel mounting surface is 2", for a total of 59.5" from mounting surface to mounting surface

c900 '88+: From rotor surface to rotor surface is 57.5", the distance between the rotor surface and wheel mounting surface is 1 3/8", for a total of 59.75" from mounting surface to mounting surface. I measured an '88, '89 and a '92 to see if there were changes along the way. Nope!

These measurements were done with a tape measure so I won't claim they are exact, but they are VERY close. Judging by wheel offset, I would have expected the '88+ to be .25" wider to account for the change in wheel offset. That may be possible - .25" off is within my margin of error. :)

I also measured (roughly) the distance between the bulge on the trailing arm and the rotor mounting surface, to see what the possibility of the trailing arm hitting a wider wheel would be:

c900 -'87 3.5" (5.5" to mounting surface)
c900 '88+ 4 3/8" (5.75" to mounting surface)
9000 (all) 3.75" (5 1/8" to mounting surface)

I found this kinda interesting. I was thinking about putting wider wheels on my 9000T, but Aaron Gilbert mentioned he'd had problems with offset, as the wheels hit the trailing arms. Now I see why - there is 5/8" less clearance than c900. Weird. Additionally, this information

1985 900 w/ alloys:

Track front 56.3"
Track rear 56.7"

1990 900 w/ alloys

Track front 56.4"
Track rear 56.7"

Anyway, that's what I learned today.
