Now that's interesting? Not sure what happened there but glad it's working for you again. Yeah I think you should back it off just a little and here's why. IMHO only, there really doesn't seem to be that big of a difference between 17-18 psi and 20-21 psi. If you're reaching 18 psi that's plenty already. Making it to 20 psi consistently/effortlessly though calls for a few more changes. Here's what I did to get up there. Water Injection and JT 3" downpipe. Also, you must not forget to find out WHAT your wastegate setting is(I'm running mine at 6.5 psi and it's the SPG9 18 psi wastegate also). You must consider that at those boost levels, there's a considerable amount of both back pressure and heat bulid up. The water injection and downpipe will cure them both, so when you're boosting to 20-21 psi you'll be causing less harm to your engine. For me the downpipe made for quicker spool up and the Aquamist made for more sustained high level boost. I also have the SPG9 A.I.D unit and timinmg is set to 20 degrees advance and it helped off boost performance.
Once I figured out that more boost didn't really make more power(to a degree)I'm now moving even further forward. Tomorrow I'm removing the stock head(2.0L)and replacing it with a 2.3L head(ported/polished)and installing some stage #2 cams. It's my understanding that when done, I'll see the power of 20-22 psi but at only 15-16 psi.
18 psi is enough boost honestly, then start looking at other ways to make more power..
See Ya,
Phil
