My stuff on your site explains some of this.
For your example ... 14 static is advance, not retard. (16 is the spec) Total retard at wot and 25 psi is 5 + .25 x 24 = 11 retarded from static timing. Since you are 2 deg extra static retard, net is 13 deg retard, vs oem of 5 deg. Likely too much, and very sluggish at low/no boost.
I think I assumed some initial advance in set-up 3. So for 19 deg static, net retard is then 8 deg at 25 psi vs 5 stock at 12 psi ... more reasonable. ( 5 actuator - 3 static(adv) + 6 BTM = 8 retard ).
I recomend the relief valve noted. Then you can remove the 5 deg from the actuator, increase the dial to mabe .7, and cap BTM signal pressure at 17 psi. So from 17 to 25 psi, net retard is 11.2 BTM - 3 static (adv) = 8.2 retard.
