well, i bet yer lookin' at one of the two ic's available on ebay.
whoever wrote those descriptions is most likely full of cr@p (looks like both sellers pasted them in from the same source). Here they are, for your entertainment:
"This is the European Factory UPGRADE Intercooler!! Were available on the '93 Commemoritive version and Europe models. The last one of these I saw sold for around $225! MUCH Fatter bars offer More Efficient, Less restrictive Flow for MUCH better cooling and Low pressure drop!! Stock unit has 15 Small bars, this one has 10 Larger passages. AND installs with NO modifications whatsoever!! This is a super rare item!!"

anyway, about them being full of cr@p: first, the 10-row versions are not a "European factory UPGRADE" - they were installed OEM on the newer c900s. and, um, saabs are made in sweden & finland; both countries are - duh - in europe.
second, i don't think anyone has ever posted here valid measurements comparing the two. i'd be interested in seeing them.
third, there have been two posts i have read by a well-respected poster about a comparison. in one post, he mentions that the 15-row version probably cooled better; in another, he mentions that in his experience, both work equally well.
fourth, saab does not make intercoolers - they get them from blackstone. It may be simply that blackstone decided to use different cores for some unknown reason, say, cheaper to have fewer rows?? it may also be that, because of a decision to use a different core that may, in fact, be slightly inferior, saab was able to purchase them less expensively. in which case, the only gain in efficiencey would have been to saab's bottom line.
fifth, there's apparently not a whole lot of cooling air getting to the c900 ic to begin with, so even if there was a significant performance difference between the two, you're still hamstrung by the lack of external cool air to strip heat from the ic.
sixth, just because something is "super rare" (and these coolers are not) doesn't make them valuable: you gotta have tight supply *and* demand to get prices to rise. these sellers are trying to artificially create this demand by making un-substantiated claims and BY USING ALL CAPITAL LETTERS AND MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS IN A LAME ATTEMPT TO ADD DRAMA TO THEIR RUN-OF-THE-MILL AUCTIONS!!!
what's especially weak is they're using the same descriptions.
on ebay and everywhere else, there is a sucker born every minute.
caveat emptor. an ebay seller of saab stuff does not necessarily an honest seller make.
don't believe everything that you read, especially if it's written by someone trying to sell you something. i know; i used to tell lies for a living (it's called "marketing").
