adjusting amm is done when larger injectors are used; keeps the car from running rich by tricking ecu into sending shorter injector pulses.

the vacuum capsule mod (aka "aid") allows you to run more advanced initial timing while retaining good retard at full boost.

the vacuum capsule on the distributor has a finite amount of travel between full advance and full retard. so if you advance timing for better off-boost performance (which is essentially the purpose of the mod), you've simultaneously decreased the amount of retard, which means your motor will knock. for example, if you're at 16* initial timing and you want, say, 18*, your max retard will now be 2* higher. knock knock, at least in my experience from carelessly setting stock initial timing too high.

brad's mod involves grinding down the metal stop on the vac capsule that limits the movement of the arm that controls timing advance/retard. this increases the total amount of travel.

so, now, say you have ground the stop down to allow 2* more travel, you can now set the initial timing at 18* and retain the same max retard. want 4* more advance than stock? grind the stop down to allow 4* more retard.

some have pointed out that a drawback to this mod is that the spring that regulates the retard curve is too wimpy and so all you do is dump in that much more retard, all at ~3-4 pounds of boost. others note that, as the spring extends, its rate becomes sufficiently stiff enough to smooth out the curve. i don't know the answer to this one.
