PCV issue, maybe?

Currently looking for some suggestions for my c900 with highly modified 2.0/2.1head/Cosworth Turbo engine:
Have a smoking issue (and I don't mean a Marlboro habit)
Problem seems to occur randomly. Initial startup is fine. No puffs of dark smoke. Idle seems ok too. However, usually what happens is I might drive the car for a half hour, pull in to a gas station for 5 or 10 minutes, start up again, and then comes the "spy hunter" smoke screen. It will smoke for a little bit, then the smoke goes away.
Valve seals are brand new. 2.1 Head was beautifully custom rebuilt by LESCO. Turbo is a new modified T3. I vent the PCV breather to atmosphere partly because of the type of throttle body I am using. The blow-off valve nipple has been moved to the lower air control motor port because that port is much larger. Because of this, I do not use the funky PCV hose going into the post AMM opening in the plastic tube. All of the other ports on the TB have been removed.
Could the lack of this PCV hose be causing my problem? Or perhaps the piston rings are still not seating properly? But again. I have great compression on all 4 cylinders and little blow-by through the oil fill cap. Engine runs strong and smoke issue seems non existent at cruising speeds.
thanks
