a little different explanation

The filter itself was not pressurizing the crankcase. Rather, the rubber bottom section of the filter was too long, such that it was touching the inside of the valve cover and occluding the flow of air/gases out of the crankcase. Pressure builds up... & the rest is history.
SAAB's PCV system still escapes logic re: its plumbing, though I have been told it is solely for emissions purposes. I tried a different breather... I did not enjoy the oil that spilled onto my engine.
