When revving in a no-load (stationary) condition, there is actually some backfiring in the exhaust. No vac leaks as far as I can see/feel.
Changing cams or reducing plug gaps to below B202 DI specs (technically, I now have an '88 9000 B202L...) don't seem right to me at this stage. I am not speaking some finetuning here, I have a car that's undriveable right now. The EPROM in there was destined to function with more aggressive cams, increased porting, more boost and an extended redline and swapping it for the OE EPROM did not change anything anyways.
Judging from the engine's behaviour when idling, the fact that the radiator cooling fan switches on within two minutes of idling and the whiteness of the spark plugs indicate that either:
* The timing is *way* retarded with no, or low load
or:
* The mixture is *extremely* lean with no, or low load
Trouble is, either seems unlikely: How can the timing be so retarded, when it's controlled by the DI computer, there's only one way to put the crankshaft sensor and shutter wheel, the pressure sensor gets and spits out the correct voltages from and to the DI ECU and while the basic timing maps are contained in the EPROM, swapping it nets no results?
OTOH why should I run super lean on low loads at once? The only thing that's changed is making the LH read the DI ignition pulse, and as soon as it's big enough to be recognized as a pulse, a pulse is a pulse. Either it should not start at all or work properly.
Sigh...
