i am not an 'expert' in anything. however, i do know that your mechanic is incorrect:

all classic saab 900s (and other models, maybe even all other models) have **fixed rate** fuel pressure regulators manufactured by bosch. the difference among the stock c900 2.5 bar, 2.8 and 3.0 bar regulators is in the spring rate *only*; otherwise, they are physically identical.

this type of bosch fpr capsule has been installed in literally *millions* of cars, e.g., saab, volvo, vw, bmw, porsche, peugeot...

btw, 7 bar (~100 psi) fuel pressure a.) far exceeds the c900's maximum sytem pressure of 80 psi, and b.) would probably prevent the injectors from functioning.

your car's Jetronic system is designed to function properly based on injector size and fuel pressure; injector opening times are calculated thusly. because Jetronic automatically compensates for variances in performance (i.e., rich/lean conditions) you can use a larger fuel pressure regulator. so, you get more fuel, which would ordinarily cause the car to run rich, but the O2 sensor detects it and compensates with shorter injector opening times. iirc, Jetronic can compensate up to 10% from normal. this is why you can use a 2.8 or 3.0 bar regulator.

i would respectfully suggest that you seek out a mechanic who is more knowledgeable; all of the above information is elementary to someone familiar with Jetronic and other electronic fuel injection systems.
