The strut travel is limited and with 1" less travel you will hit the bump stops more often. Some springs are sriffer, some just shorter and quite soft. With less travel, hitting the bump stops can be quite hard on your rims. If you have 17" rims with those roads the chances of bent rims is very high. One thing that you can do is hack off some of the bump stop when you do the work. This will allow for more travel and perhaps a better ride. Saab apparently designed the suspension to put you onto the front outside bump stop in hard turns. Add bumps to that and it suxs. I hacked off the first lump of my bump stops, perhaps 1.25", when I installed Koni's on my 95SET. I stayed with the stock SE springs. I had a SAS bar to deal with chassis sway. I also had the VRK.
Brad (kcsaab) is supportative (quietly encouraging) of shortening the bump stops. And you might want to consider the euethane bushings that brad sells as well. Just doing the shocks and springs will not make the vehicle corner really well, but it will be a great improvement. I found that the VRK felt like both front tires were turning the vehicle and prior to that it was like only the front outside tire was doing the work. If I was doing it over again I would do the steering rack brace plus urethane bushings, not the VRK. But either one is expensive labor to install and for most not a DIY option.
