Been driving for 7 years now and I've never had a ticket of any kind. I think it's much more fun to accellerate quickly rather than to just drive fast, so I get it all out of my system on highway on-ramps. Try to stay at or below 10mph over the limit at all times and you should be fine, although 80mph seems to work well in the 65mph zones around here. The real problem for me is in the 75mph zones on I-25; not pushing 90 is pretty tough sometimes.
I've done my share of fast driving, but it's always been in deserted areas. Fastest I've ever gone was 120mph in my friend's BMW in the middle of Nevada for about 15 minutes straight. That was a blast, but there were no other cars anywhere near us and the highway was wide open and pretty straight.
