The idle stalling problem is found in the cars that use the T-7 Trionic engine management. This means the 9-3 SE HOT, 9-3 Viggen and 9-5 Aero. The open air valves do not function exactly the same as the bypass valves. The open air valves have dual springs so they stay closed during vacuum. Supposedly this design will prevent the idle problems and accidental injestion of dirt that would happen with the other valves disconnected from the return to the intake. This is information that I got from Abbott America and Abbott Racing. They are similar to the open air blow-off valves from japanese companies like HKS and GReddy.
I just got off the phone with David at Abbott America and mine will be going out today Airborne Express. Hopefully I will have it installed and a review for everyone before I leave from Orlando to go to Viggen Flight Academy.
If you want to talk to the people I did you can e-mail Giles Fairweather, Tuning Manager at Abbott Racing. The address is giles@abbottracing.com. I hope this helps.
PS From my japanese turbo days... a nasty blow off valve sounds sooo sick. Its worth every cent for noise alone.
