Well today i ported all intake ports and I can say this:
Short block heads are almost perfect! There is nothing big there that can be done. I just smoothed out forging seams somewhat and polished the rest. Rest of time I spent on port-matching intake with the head, and that's where I found biggest oportunity for improvement.
Obviously, intake-head seam isn't always correct and there was a edge oposite to injectors ranging from 1mm to 3mm (4:th cylinder was worst in this aspect). So what I did is to grind away unnecessary material from the intake until it was smoothly matched with head..."finger-test" says it will flow much
better now.
Besides, it's real PITA job...took me over 6 hours just to do intake. I bet it's much easier to port 2v heads. Kudos to SAAB for making real tought-out "dent" in the top of the port to accomodate two of four fuel jets comming from the injector (each injector has four holes and two of them spray into each own "dent").
Exhaust will be much easier i think...i'll just port-match it and polish the rest.
Cheers!
