My favorite shop. No affiliation.
Ask about "Saabs" and "racing" and you don't get too many heads nodding.
At Scanwest, the owner and many of the mechanics are/have been involved in
SCCA ProRally! You can't beat that!
I have been to the "transmission assembly area" in the shop and while it
isn't that fancy, it is very purpose-built. All manner of custom and
factory transmission tools are hanging on the wall behind the stainless
steel bench. One end of the bench slopes into a shallow sink/wash area
with integral sprayer and drain! Trans parts are organized in rack
storage nearby.
I ended up building my own trans for my '86 SPG, but I used all Scanwest
parts, advise, and many of their rally racing gearbox tricks, including a
steel differential cover and shot-peened gears. Working great so far!
