I finally had a successful dyno tuning session. The first two times I went, ran into revving issues. First time it turned out to be valve float - rectified by returning to stock cams off an '86 9kT, the second time it turned out it was just too rich on the top end.

Anyway, as I was saying, successful yesterday. The best pull on 91 octane pump fuel netted 194hp and 183 ft lbs at the wheels. These are corrected SAE figures, ie. what it would be at sea level.

On 111 octane leaded race gas, it made 237hp and 220 ft lbs at the wheels, again these are corrected SAE figures. I don't know what this would translate into at the crank, and don't care to speculate.

The car should make more power, my EFI guru (who tunes Typhoons and Syclones) was thinking another 50hp would be possible if my boost was consistent. On pump, I was peaking at about 15-16psi, then it died down to about 12ish. On the 111, I peaked about 19-20psi, then it held at 15psi or so. Could be something to do with the wastegate, by the dyno operators were telling me that the HKS Super Sequential BOV has a tendency to leak over 15psi. Dunno. Definitely on the race gas pulls, there was a very loud whistle, sounding like a leak, that was not apparent on the lower boost.

The turbo is a T3-60 with a .48 A/R on the exhaust side. The guru was thinking we could go another size up, is it .52? Or a custom wastegate setup, maybe an external. My intercooler plumbing is not 100% ideal either, I think I will revise that too.

The race gas makes a huge difference. We could lean out the fuel substantially, and run a massively more aggressive timing curve. On pump, I was getting about 8 degrees total timing under boost; on the race gas, we ran 24 degrees total timing, IIRC, with no hint of detonation.

Anyway, with some sort of water injection system, I'm hoping I'll be able to run race gas fuel and ignition curves combined with big boost on pump fuel. I think I'll be putting together a system this winter. For now, I'll just drive and revel in the power.

Oh and tuning is such a snap with stand alone, dyno and a wideband. We sorted out cruising conditions and idle in oh...about 3 minutes! :)
