Thanks for relaying Nick's observations re: copper vs. platinum.
NGK has good info at this site:
http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spark_plugs/installation.asp
Nick has SAAB-specific info at the link below.
On a 4 cyl SAAB it's easy. Turn the ignition off, wait 30 seconds, unplug the DI harness, undo the four DI cassette screws, lift carefully, and voila, the plugs are right there.
Before removing the spark plugs, use some compressed air to blow out the dirt around the plug holes.
Careful when installing the new plugs, screw them in by hand (without a wrench) to prevent cross-threading. Once they're finger tight, my SAAB-branded box of NGK spark plugs says to turn another 1/2 to 3/4 turn with a plug wrench. NGK says 18-21 lb-ft.
It's been suggested to keep the DI cassette upright (in its original position) so as to not shift around the coil oil. But it's no problem if you happen to turn it upside down, so long as you wait a few minutes after reinstalling it (to allow the oil to resettle), before firing up the engine.
Also, it's a good idea to put a little dielectric (silicone) grease on the base of the spark plug boots.
What else... Oh yeah, Dean makes a good recommendation to use "Loctite Blue" on the DI cassette screws, to prevent them from loosening and possibly going astray. Be careful to use the correct version of Loctite, the stronger formulations will not allow diassembly with hand tools!
Happy Saabin'
