"Head and cylinders" you say - do you mean head and pistons? Or do you mean the block? I think you need first to get your terminology right.
Head goes on top of the block. In the block are four holes, the cylinders. Into the cylinders go the pistons and rods. Into the pistons go the rings. The pistons are attached to the rods, which are then attached to the crank at the bottom.
Ideally you would clean up the whole block, hot tank it, clean it all out. I'd have the pistons cleaned too. My engine builder glass bead blasts the tops, then manually cleans the ring lands with a dead ring edge. As for the block, I'd have it checked to be sure nothing is out of round. Then I'd have it honed at the very least, possibly bored out too, but if you want to reuse pistons, then you can't bore out the block, as pistons come in varying sizes. As for the pistons, I'd have them checked too to be sure they are not out of round. You could possibly have their skirts coated to help bring back some of the 'round'.
As for the SD kit itself...I've never used their's per se, but all of the items in it, or equivalents, are readily available from a good jobber/auto parts supply house. Chromium rings will take longer to break in than non chromium, but otherwise I'm over my head with regards to the advantages and disadvantages of different materials regarding rings.
