Okay, not really an update at all. Thanks everyone for their emails. I would reply directly, but it could get repetitive, so here goes.
I have received decent response on the hoods, and I'm confident that this could go forward. The only issue is that the guy who'd do them is so busy right now, he won't accept new work. So I'll keep looking into it and maybe we can sort something out for maybe next spring or summer. Have to play it by ear.
What does everyone feel about having several screw heads showing on the surface? I was thinking that instead of cutting and bonding the hinges out entirely from a donor hood, one could remove them, and mount them to a pair of spacer blocks, for the right depth. These blocks would be mounted with screws. Then there are the two pointy things on the firewall side, as well as the two wheels which go into the rails on the body. These would have to be attached somehow too. Lots of small details when it comes down to it.
As for the custom wheels, there has not been as much response. I'll press forward with some designs, Taylor mentioned he could help, and we'll go from there on pricing.
