Optimum Shift Points, Yankton 94 Aero Posted by Kevin K [Email] (#374) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Kevin K) on Wed, 15 Oct 2003 09:02:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Used KevinY's green torque curve to figure shift points for max acceleration, assuming tires hook up:
1-2 6200 36.5 mph (redline)
2-3 5850 66.6 mph
3-4 5400 95.0 mph
4-5 5400 120 mph (176 mph at 6200 in 5th, with strong tailwind)
Used excel to calc/plot the five 'torque at axle vs mph' curves for the 5 gears. Best shift point is at the axle torque curve crossovers, so no loss of axle torque at the shifts. The wide 1-2 shift is at redline, since axle curves don't cross ... about 18% torque drop at the wheels, but some is recovered at torque peak is crested. Used 205-55-16 for tire dia to get mph. Don't know how to post the graph.
