i assume you are referring to a mbc type arrangment? if you have an lh series ecu the apc valve IS a dawes devices. a manual one just never adjusts at run time.
i think that they give a distinctly "flatter" feeling power band. less peaky and better mannered .i.e. predictable. downside of course is no knock detection. not a problem for me. mine never knocks.
you can build one for very cheap. 10-15$ in fittings max. google for it. the instructions are out there. i made my own light saber a little better than the plans provided. it has to do with barb portion ID size and the amount of force produced due to a bigger ball valve seat. you can also buy one for 15$ but you have to wait for shipping and your cc # getting ripped off instead of a trip to the hardware store. google for "joe p mbc".
prolly wont work as well for T5 or T7 ecu's
