I wanted to post some numbers for my modified 1998 900SET from the recent “Dyno Daze IV” held by the Saab Club of Seattle (http://www.saabclubseattle.org/) at Carburetor Connection in Kirkland, Washington (http://www.carbconn.com/). These events are fun and informative looks at how well our engine tuning (or lack of) is paying off. I did not get scans of the DynoJet print outs, so have no charts to post.
With the 3” airbox mod, ITG foam air filter, turbo silencer removed, ported throttle body transition casting, Saab sport exhaust, & SpeedParts Step 2 ECU my car pulled a peak of 192 HP and 214 lb-ft of torque at the wheels with a constant 16PSI of boost. This is compared to my previous numbers of 140 peak HP and 150 lb-ft of torque when run on the DynoJet with all mods minus the SpeedParts ECU.
Jeremy, another Saab Club of Seattle member, running his tricked 1997 900SET Talladega with the same engine mods (including a SpeedParts Step 2 ECU) plus a Viggen intercooler pulled a peak of 207 HP and 214 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.
Air/Fuel ratio for both cars was a nice rich 10-12 while under boost. The torque curve was very uniform, being more of a plateau starting at about 2800 RPM and being basically flat to 5000 RPM then tapering off.
Knowing that the numbers generated on a DynoJet are subject to lots of variables, I use the DynoJet numbers for general comparison only. Dyno tests are snapshots of engine performance typically taken in one gear only and certainly are only indicators of a vehicle's performance on the street. But these numbers do correlate very well with the SpeedParts advertised 230HP and 260 lb-ft of torque.
