Ya know, I was gonna do this late last spring, then the sun came out and I figured I would wait until the weather got cold and crappy. Well, here we are. I have read some post where it was stated that you could get to the balance shaft chain with the pan off. Seeing as I wanted to finally do the T-28 thing and the 3" downpipe, dropping the pan is an easy next step. However, "Swedecar" on the 9000 board says the chain is not really accessable from the crankcase. And a forensic examination of a dead 2.3 with the pan off looks like it would be a really tight job, the question is: what is the easiest way to remove the b-chain? Also, from the available pictures, it looks like the tensioner will go to the end of its travel and stay put, is this the case?
