I've had both the 2.5" and 3" exhaust systems on my 1990 900 SPG and there is no difference in performance but the 3" system sounded like a rice rocket and it rattled like hell on the pan rod bracket.
The SPG9 system was a waste of time since it never fit properly and I sold it on Ebay.
A straight through muffler and full 2.5" pipe is more than capable of flowing over 300 horsepower and will give you a nice sporty but pleasant sound.
