Hi,
Brad and I recently came accros this website: http://www.max-boost.co.uk
Under the ignition section there is a modification for the rotor involving removing the resistor and soldering a piece of wire in there to remove the 1K ohms of resistance.
We did as the instructions state and rechecked the resistance, which was now at zero. As a side note the rotor we used was a new one. I installed the rotor in my car and found that the car was more responsive, but i immediately had detenation that I didn't have before. So I got curious and decided to do some tests, here are my results.
STOCK ROTOR------------------------------- MODIFIED ROTOR
23 deg. of intial timing---------------24 DEG. OF INITIAL TIMING
8 deg. of timing under full boost------- 9 DEG. OF TIMING UNDER BOOST
I am assuming that since it made 1 deg. of difference at idle the effect is greater at higher rpm. So seeing this we decided to check things further.
-------------------------AV. ------------------------------AV.
PEAK KV: 8.9- 8.8- 8.4- 8.7 ------PEAK KV: 9.4- 8.5- 8.9- 8.93
BURN MS: 1.5- 1.7- 1.2- 1.46 -----BURN MS: 2.0- 1.8 -1.3 -1.7
BURN KV: .5- .4- .5---- .46 ------BURN KV: .6- .5- .5---- .53
