A lot of that mess will be in the discharge hose and the IC etc. I would pull all of that stuff and wash them out. Big bits will not get past the IC! The oil film in the ducts and IC will hold on to some of the small stuff.
If you do not have a Viggen IC, that would address the cleaning of the IC and a hose or two.
Remove the hard pipe and TBTC. Clean those. Inspect and swab the TB. Now look down through the TB into the intake manifold's plenum below. It is normally just about black. So metal flake contamination will show up to the eye. If you see a lot, you have to pull the intake :(
I was doing work over period of time on a '70 Opel GT. Hood up, intake off, cowl holding all of the nuts and bolts etc. Pet racoon, well not for much longer..., picked up the fasteners and sockets and dropped them into the carb! No damage in the end, I saw before I tried to start the engine.
