I concur with KB. The higher your expectations for the machine, the higher your standards should be for lubrication.

I have used synthetic oil in my 87 SPG since 90 (I bought her in Oct 89). I used RedLine for most of that time and still run RedLine MTL in the gearbox. The results? At about 250,000, I'm still on the original turbo. The motor was rebuilt about 2 years ago (cracked piston) and was in tremendous shape otherwise, the tranny was rebuilt at the same time (to upgrade pinion and to take advantage of the cost savings due to rebuild). The motor now gets Mobil 1 simply because I can't buy RedLine locally, but the tranny will continue to get RedLine MTL.

WARNING: The extended OIL CHANGE interval does NOT eliminate the need to CHANGE the FILTERS at or before the recommended service intervals. I change oil filters at 2500 to 3000 miles and oil annually or at 12,000, whichever comes first.

I would quibble with KB in one regard. I continue to use synth even though the seals in the turbo finally are beginning to go and the oil cooler lines are leaking. I'd rather buy an extra quart or two of synth oil than go back to dino oil.
