I previously posted that a shop removed the engine in order to replace broken manifold bolts and while out I had the also replace the clutch etc. etc..--- When I picked up the car it was hard not to notice that the shifting was super silk smooth BUT no gear would stay in place. I drove the car home approx 75 km (44 miles +/-) and then discovered that they forgot to refill the trans and I had driven with no oil at all (It took 3 ltrs to fill it ).
The MYSTERY is that the trans makes no unusual noises - shifts extremely smooth -- the syncros seem to work because it does not grind in any gear -- the centering spring must work because the shift lever always pops to the centre. ----------- The way it works is this -- First gear engages and stays in place while accelerating but as soon as I lift of the gas it pops out and the shift returns to centre - this hapens in second, third and fourth HOWEVER thank god fifth stays in place. What is happenig??????????
