Removed the trans side cover and at first was disapointed because the spring was there BUT!!!!! after closer examination it became obvious that it was in the wrong place (the tech had placed it on the stud that sticks out). I located the opening that it should fit into and after making certain that the ball was still in place I inserted the spring and put the cover back. Test drove the car and the trans is now as it should be - the gears stay in place!
----No doubt this and a number of other goof-ups are just plain careless slopy work. Things like not filling the trans, not securing the oil filler tube, leaving the speedo cable out, srewing up the vacumm lines, giving me a box of nuts and bolts which they could not remember where they should go, fortunately I know my Saab well and with your and others help seem to be putting it right again - I know the owner quite well and will be presenting him with a list and try to get some settlement.
