I realize I'm dangerous with only half a story and strictly theory. Tell me where I go wrong then...
Here's what I am thinking...spring/diaphragm force controls the WGA. The ball and spring in the MBC are set to crack enough psi to open to WG. But the ball doesn't just lift off at once, but gradually. It's not all or nothing. So the ball starts to lift off applying some pressure and the WGA starts to creep so boost then rises at a slwoer rate.
I am thinking that if there was an aftermarket WGA that had adjustable spring tension, then you could do away with the MBC and use the WG spring tension to control boost. Other cars are doing just that. I know a few who have junked their $300 electronic boost controllers for and adjustable external WG and controll boost from that. If the WGA from Forge is a metal piston similar design to their BPV's then air density wouldn't matter, air pressure pushing on the WGA's metal piston/spring would take care of the problem. Temperature can change, boost pressure would be consistent.
I realize this doesn't account for air density upstream through the IC and up to the TB. But if it is dependent on when and how fast the WG reacts, why not put the adjustable spring at the WGA, do away with the MBC and control the boost that way? I'm sure I'm missing something???? What is it? and why does forge make one for the c900 turbo???
