I am sure you are aware that the cheaper fuel additives are mainly kerosene type solvents instead of the more expensive, and more effective, fuel system detergents and deposit dispersants. These cheaper fuel additives just won't do the whole job.
A premium fuel system cleaner has a full range of fuel system detergents and deposit dispersants. I have used Chevron “Techron Concentrate” with good results, but the best fuel system cleaner I have found is “Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner” (http://www.redlineoil.com). I use one 15 oz. bottle of Redline Complete Fuel System Cleaner in a full tank of fuel, after each oil change (or 5,000 miles). Don’t refuel until the tank is at ¼ full or less to let the cleaner do its job.
