did not mean to paint the open filter as a bad thing...just something else to deal with. overall, i am very pleased with the performance enhancement felt by the open filter. plus, the ease in cleaning and re-oiling makes it a very good buy, imho.
my biggest issue is dirt. when i pulled the filter out yesterday, there were small stones and dirt sitting in the creases on the filter on top. this is primarily from the dirt they use on the roads for the winter so it should be less of an issue during the coming months. i may fabricate something to block the direct flow from under the headlight for use in the winter months. however, i do like the directness of the air flow for power at higher rpms.
just a few more thoughts.
