It seems to me that you are probably getting full* boost in all gears at midrange rpms, but you get boost taper at high rpms. In 5th gear, you just don't see the taper because you aren't driving around at 5000-6000 rpms very much in 5th -- or are you? ;)

*if full boost is only the beginning of the red zone, you have a problem. This is like 5 or 8 psi or something...maybe even base boost? Get an actual gage and start troubleshooting!!

In any case, the modified APC box should introduce ZERO boost taper to the system. I say "should" because I don't have any experience with SD boxes, only G6 and G9 boxes. So anyway, hopefully the SD box has no taper and you can start looking into other components. Assuming that your tune-up parts are all good - as other posters indicated - I would guess that the little mitsu turbo running out of steam, and heating the air so much that the IC is heat-soaked and the charge air temp is going through the roof. The downpipe from Brad at KC Saab and/or G9 is supposed to make a huge improvement to turbo efficiency & temps. Also consider an FMIC upgrade of some sort, more fueling, and one of the ignition advance mods.
