I just traded up from an 87 c900 with 263K miles to an 87 c900s with 170K. this new car is at the moment totally stock, and does the common Bosch LH stumble and die on start up and during cold running. From other posts it looks like I could use checking the Air mass meter. I have just purchased a K&N style filter which seems to be a perfect fit for the intake side of the AMM, so I can do away with the air filter box. Next I would like to upgrade the exhaust side of things, since there is lots of rust in the current muffler and pipe. Are there other areas where you would check or upgrade before setting out on wild projects inside the engine? Ideally I would like to bring it up to around 150 reliable hp for autocross and fun driving. I don't want to ruin the car's road-trip worthiness/reliability, so I am not going to go mad with high compression ratios or LPT conversions. Would an ECU upgrade, chip, or other trickery help as this is a non-turbo car? Thanks in advance for any help,
Alan
