After installing a set of stock sway bars on my 82T, there was a definite conflict of interest with respect to the sway bar and muffler. Contact was near constant. What happened was prior to my purchasing the car, someone welded the cat to the downpipe, adding an inch or two to the overall length of the exhaust system in the process. I drove for a year with that annoyance, trying to buffer it with strips of rubber, then grinding down the muffler edge, but still the rubbing continued. I eventually dismantled the exhaust from the cat back (a 2 year old muffler) and shortened the piece between the cat and muffler. Problem solved.
