I'm in hte process (literally) of dropping a new ported 2.3 head and gasket set on my '88 9KT.

Quick question based on my observations regarding the old head. I had heavy whitish light grey deposits on the exhaust valves and light grey deposits on my plugs. Is this a lean condition or water injection leaking alcohol/water mix in engine off boost(solonoid not working perhaps). Car runs/ran fine, but there used to be brownish deposits on the plugs before the WI was installed. As well, very thick varish like carbon deposits on top of the pistons....not powdery, but almost baked on. Used emory cloth and high grit wet sand to get that off.

what do you guys think?
