I did mount the 16V version oil cooler on my 82. Two in fact, both left and right side. The left side is for the engine crank oil, the right I have used for cooling the turbo feed oil, but may use it for tranny oil cooling once I get around to mounting the necessary pump. To mount them I pulled all the necessary hardware and hoses from a donor car, then drilled the holes for the hoses and mounting bolts and screws. The holes in the 82 were drilled after taking as precise as possible measurements from the donor car. I used a 3/16" bit to drill a series of holes around the perimeter line of each hose hole, then used a heavy duty wire cutter to "snip" through the remaining metal between the drilled holes. Then a rotary grinding bit to smooth out the jagged edges. The holes don't have to be exactly round or centered, just large enough to not interfere with the cooler hose and/or fittings. Because I have experience working with sheet metal on aircraft, it wasn't all that difficult for me. If you are at all intimidated by the idea, just approach it logically and double check your marking and drilling decisions. One way to approach it is to make a paper template of the donor car hole patterns. (paper held against surface, pencil rubbed across paper surface outlining the holes beneath, or punched through the paper) On the right side cooler, I had to do some cutting of the metal oil cooler bracket to accomodate the AC hoses. I also had to do some cutting of the front air dam to attach the plastic mesh cooler grill covers. It was a good two hour chore per each cooler. Add two hours for the removal and re-installation of the bumper and grill components.
