I'm just about ready to order a Garrett GT28RS ball bearing turbo for my 1995 9000 Aero. The exaust manifold interface looks to be identical and there should be no problems on the compressor side. The only area where some fabrication might be required is at the exaust to downpipe interface.
the new Garrett opening is a large oval with five bolts. A 3/8" flange is available that allows you to reduce it to any size opening you prefer. I have seen this flange actually welded to a short downpipe section in some Audi/ VW applications.
Any suggestions?
Has anyone actually done this yet?
By the way, My stock TD04HL-15t is will be for sale as soon as the transformation is complete.
