the extra circuit board work does 2 things- first it eliminates the boost taper at high RPM- and secondly it modifies how the knock detection backs off boost: boost is stepped back in smaller increments and allowed to return a lot sooner. run 94 or higher octane with this one. How safe is it? I did this mod at 150,000 miles on my 88 900t, and ran max boost 25 PSI for 100,000 miles before the rings started to get tired. As for removing the boost taper: you cannot imagine what a 25 PSI shot from the turbo is like at 5500 rpm's on the highway is like! with this mod I could outrun 911's on the highway!
but of course- proceed at your own risk, do some research, do the mod you are comfortable with, and i recommend a partial engine rebuilt BEFORE you modify your apc at all. Do a headgasket and all the oil seals. Your engine will thank you.
now to get back to building the rally car... :)
