MPP steering rack clamp installation question

Today I installed the MPP steering rack clamp. Per the instructions, I used a wooden batten and small hammer to move the top U-clamp into place. The problem is that top of the clamp bent slightly during the process of hammering it into place. I was able to bolt the clamp into position but it is not perfectly flush against steering rack. It is quite firmly attached and I am sure it is a huge improvement over the previous rubber doughnut (I now see what everyone was talking about…what an amazingly bad design for an expensive “performance” vehicle).

This is the first time I have even attempted any DIY work on my car so it may not be the fault of the clamp. However, I followed the instructions to the letter. My question is, should I ask MPP for a new U-clamp and go to the trouble of replacing the existing one? It really is quite snug in place, just not perfectly flush. If it would be helpful I can snap and post a photo.

As an aside, I installed the Taliaferro rear sway bar (stage two) yesterday. I can’t believe I have had my car for five years with out making these improvements. Huge difference! I can’t recommend highly enough, particularly for owners of convertibles.
