The weekend of the 14th started out like a fire! A freind of mine has a track ready 320i and invited me to a BMW driving school in Red Oak Ia. The MAM coarse is 2.25 miles long and has 14 corners. I ran my 94 Aero. The car itself is only slightly modified as the original parts wore out; shocks, bushings, clutch and tires. Brad at Georges in KC had tried to convince me that I should of changed the stock springs when He did the struts with Koni's, but due to cash flow I didn't. After this weekend I wish I did spend the extra cash!
The performance of the Saab was outstanding! The only cars that were able to pass were the highly modified base BMWs and new stock M series cars. Also, a WRX and a twin turbo supra, I did not stand a chance! Oh well, you can't have it all! I found that the car has brakes that will slow you down when needed and stayed a resonable temperature. Cornering, the front had a lot of dive with the stock springs, but, with modest understeer the car tracked around every corner with minor tire scub. The rear stayed put until I tried to brake from 90 to 65 durring the "s" turns, then it broke LOOSE! What a ride!
Thanks to Brad and JW at Georges for helping set the car up for the weekend!
I hope ALL Saab owners get the chance to really find out how well their cars are set up!
Wishing you good lap times!
Oscar in KS.
