First- if you're new to autocross as well, just drive the car as is. The biggest improvements can be found at the loose nut behind the wheel (also usually the least expensive). Go out & get as much seat time as you can. Try & resist the urge to mod the car & add race tires right away-the extra grip is more than you need at first to learn car control.
Opinions really differ on this, but all the national caliber people in my region recommend driving a stock car on stock tires for at least 5-6 events before doing anything to the car.
If/when you decide you like it & want to invest some more money, you can decide if you want to stay in stock class (HS), or street touring (STS). In Stock you can add race tires, change shocks & cat-back exhaust, and alignment. for STS, you can do alot more suspension mods, but need to run on street tires, such as Kumho MX. You can, however, go to non-stock sizes like snipes was talking about. You can also do some external engine mods like intake/exhaust. I'm guessing STS would be a better way to go for the 900 to get rid of some of the body roll & understeer.
Have fun!!
