A fairly large turbo for 300whp. This is to keep the trans alive. The boost must build slowly to avoid instant torque spikes. I am on tranny #2 due to 27psi on the stock mitsu turbo and a high-rpm launch. Not wise.
I rode in an SPG with 300whp the other day. The lag isn't bothersome at all with that kind of power. There are some in the SAAB community working on raising the redline of the stock ECU to allow a larger powerband as well.
The stock ECU will probably not get you there. If it does, the car will be miserable to drive any time you are not at high boost and high rpm. A good solution is to add additional injectors controlled by a mappable driver. Watch this site for dyno results of my car with this setup later this week.
You will also need a downpipe solution that opens the flow up. The turbine and wastegate discharges must be separated. An external gate is a good idea.
The stock ignition is only good for a certain increase as well. Most claim mid 200whps, but I will see for myself soon. Perhaps you should assess timing retard capability as well.
APC is rather inconsistent for tuning to such elevated power levels. A good boost controller and some time on the dyno will give you a more reliable output.
Best of luck,
Andy
