The epoxy is rated by the manufacturer to be able to handle up to a maximum of 600 degrees F. Before doing this project I called them and asked specifically about this issue, explaining what I intended to do (using it as an interior lining for turbo intercooler end tank porting). I was assured it could easily withstand the high temps as claimed and remain intact. Poly-styrene fiberglass resin on the other hand, does not withstand those high temps. My thinking was to use the epoxy as a shell lining, especially where the temps are the highest (IC inlet porting), similar to how the space shuttle uses those special tiles to deflect the heat upon re-entry. What happens with fiberglass at too high a temp over time is that it continues to cure and cook, becoming much too brittle. 250 F for brief periods of time is about the hottest you want cured fiberglass exposed to. Figuring that the interior surface epoxy lining will absorb and deflect most of those higher temps, the exterior f'glass layers (at least 3 for the IC inlet port) which are exposed to fast moving (cooling) air should be fine. Considering that I'm not planning to race or rally with this car and engine, I'm confident what I'm aiming for with this FMIC fabrication will work as intended.
